August is a quiet month when it comes to deadlines, but there is one very important deadline on August 15th that effects all state fund, private employers in the state of Ohio: True-Up. Miss the deadline and your company could be removed from any workers' compensation rating programs and discount programs. For most employers, removal from the rating (group rating, group or individual retro, deductible) or discount programs (like drug free safety or transitional work bonus or industry specific safety programs) will mean dramatic increases in premium costs. You can read more here: The True Up Process .
OSHA has also announced that it is delaying the effective date of the anti-retaliation portion of its new record keeping rule to November 1, 2016.
Private employers in the advanced level of the Drug Free Safety program also must turn in the Action Plan by the close of business on August 31. More information is available on the BWC website: DFSP Action Plan.
Just a reminder that if your company has not yet address the medical marijuana policy at your workplace, there's about a month left before the new law takes effect. You can read more about it here: Employers Should Address Medical Marijuana before September.
