Past workers' compensation injuries impact future workers' compensation premiums - and lost time claims have the most significant impact.
Implementing a transitional work program before an injury occurs reduces lost time claims. The program will use "real" work tasks to accommodate the restrictions provided by the treating physician. As the employee recovers, restrictions are lifted and more tasks assigned until the employee returns to his/her original job. Employees on transitional work assignments experience a smooth transition to the worksite, remaining active and productive. Often employees recover from the injury sooner when on a transitional work program.
Transitional work programs are developed before an injury occurs, implementing policies and procedures to follow in the event of an injury. Communication with community resources - including medical providers and managed care organizations - ensures that all are on the same page. Job Analysis are completed and training of employees and supervisors is completed to ensure all know their roles.
